What’s Cooking Around the World?

4 Weeks of Cooking, Teamwork & Challenges for Young People Aged 13–16

Ready to get cooking?

What’s Cooking Around the World? is a four-week series of practical young leaders sessions for teenagers aged 13–16, bringing young people together to cook, learn new skills and work as a team.

This isn’t a traditional cooking course. Each week brings a different meal, a different set of skills and a new challenge. You’ll learn by getting involved, working with your team and creating food from scratch.

By the final week, you’ll put everything you’ve learned to the test in a competitive cooking challenge inspired by Ready Steady Cook.

What will you learn?

Across the four weeks, you’ll have the chance to develop practical cooking skills while building confidence, communication and teamwork.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Prepare and cook different meals from scratch
  • Use a range of cooking techniques and ingredients
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Communicate and share ideas with other young people
  • Plan and organise your cooking
  • Put your new skills into practice under pressure
  • Build confidence in the kitchen

The 4-Week Challenge

Week 1 – Chicken Fajitas

Get started with chicken fajitas, learning essential preparation and cooking skills while working together as a team.

Week 2 – Burrito Bowls

Build on your skills with burrito bowls, exploring different ingredients, flavours and ways to put together a balanced meal.

Week 3 – Soup

Learn the skills behind making a tasty homemade soup, from preparing ingredients to cooking and bringing different flavours together.

Week 4 – The Big Cooking Challenge

It’s time to put your skills to the test. Working in teams, you’ll take on a Ready Steady Cook-style cooking challenge. You’ll need to use the skills you’ve developed across the previous three weeks to plan, prepare and cook as a team. Which team will rise to the challenge?

More Than Just Cooking

These young leaders sessions are about more than learning recipes. They give teenagers an opportunity to try something practical, meet other young people and develop skills that can be useful both in and outside the kitchen.

Through cooking together, you’ll practise teamwork, communication, problem-solving and confidence while having fun and enjoying the food you create. Whether you already enjoy cooking or have never cooked much before, there’s something to get involved with.

Who is it for? Young people aged 13–16. The sessions are designed to be practical, social and hands-on, giving teenagers the opportunity to learn new skills alongside other young people.
