The Crystal Palace Community Trust are delighted to report that we have been selected to receive £150K from the Weston Anniversary Fund.
Following consultation with the local community and partners, we were able to ascertain that there is a definite need for greater service provision for children, young people and families in the area. Following on from this, we wrote a bid to Garfield Weston including plans drawn up by a local surveyor.
Plans for the disused library space at Anerley Town Hall include a large area which can be used by providers to run their services and activities from plus small rooms that can be used for purposes such as counselling and advice services. These spaces will also be available for hire at weekends. In addition, we plan to integrate an affordable community café which will be open to local people including local workers during the daytime.
Elaine Harrison, Trust Development Manager says the funding will transform the number of services they can offer families in the local area.
We were absolutely stunned when we heard the news about the funding and incredibly excited. We cannot overstate the difference this project will make to the local community. Anerley is severely under-served in terms of services and provision despite being situated in a deprived area. With this money we can turn a dilapidated old building into a wonderful community space – neutral, safe, welcoming – and provide positive activities for children young people and families. It will make a tremendous difference to local people, especially children and young people and to community groups who will use the space.
Simone Cohen, a local parent, said:
Why do we need this project in Anerley? There are so many reasons why services are needed. It’s important to keep children and young people focused and involved in clubs and activities. Children are not born bad but bored children can get into bad habits if they have nothing to do.
The Crystal Palace Community Trust operates for the benefit of those who live and work in the wards surrounding Crystal Palace Park and encompasses 5 boroughs; Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.
We currently run a free youth club, an art club for children priced at minimal cost and services for the older 50’s as well as halls for hire and a business centre.
